The Improvisational Church: Who's in Charge Here? - (Jenny Morgan)

In the Book of Acts, we witness the good news moving fast and furious from Jerusalem to Rome and beyond. In Acts 18 we see geographic and theological movement as we watch Paul and Aquila and Priscilla explaining clearly the way of the crucified Christ. We also learn of Apollos and the growth and development of the Corinthian churches. The good news always moves outward toward more people. It doesn't stay put in one place. The good news consistently makes room for all variety of diversity. Asking who is in charge? is indeed the right question, but reflection on the question may turn up answers we don't expect.

The Improvisational Church: From Attempted Suicide to Giddy Salvation (Jenny Morgan)

Acts 16:16-34
A frantic question is posed, "What must I do to be saved?" Acts 16:14-34 addresses some of the complexities of this terror-filled question and then invites us to join in on the question-asking. While trying to avoid formulaic Christian answers, Jenny Morgan preaches about a night that might well have ended in death, but in reality ends in life, new life. The story behind the story is rich. An unnamed slave girl’s cameo appearance sets up the imprisonment of Paul and Silas. Their jail time ends in an earthquake that frees a bunch of prisoners and forces the prison guard into a suicide attempt. It’s much more multifaceted than one man asking, “What must I do to be saved?” As we dig deeper, the jailer in the story becomes God's teacher for us.
